SAGA national teams announced

The South African Golf Association has named a senior and junior team for the upcoming test against Scotland and the All Africa Junior Golf Challenge respectively.

The announcement was made during the South African Stroke Play Championship currently underway at the Hyatt Regency Oubaai Golf Resort and Spa in George.

South African No 1 Haydn Porteous and the second-ranked Zander Lombard lead a senior team that features several newcomers for the test against Scotland at Leopard Creek in Mpumalanga from 4-6 March.

“We have really had to explore the depth of South African amateur golf after we lost so many of our top amateurs to the professional ranks at the end of last year, and this will be a good opportunity to test that depth,” said SAGA President André Pieterse.

The four-man junior team features two players ranked within the top 20 on the SAGA national amateur rankings in Thriston Lawrence and Jason Froneman for the All Africa Junior Golf Challenge at Le Touessrok in Mauritius from 27 April to 3 May.

“We’re very excited about the potential of the junior team. It’s a very good with some strong players in it, and we’re expecting a lot from them,” said Pieterse.
