Bruyns books quarterfinal spot in Argentina

South Africa’s Drikus Bruyns continued his incredible run in Argentina with two more victories during the second round of the 117th Argentine Amateur Championship on Friday.

The country’s fourth ranked amateur downed local favourite Jaime Lopez Ravarola 2&1 to advance to the top 16 and thumped Argentine Jacquin Bonjour 3&1 to book his spot in Saturday’s quarterfinals at Pilar Golf Club near Buenos Aires.

The Boland amateur will face off against another Argentine, Santiago Bauni.

Bauni needed an extra hole to beat Antti Lassila of Finland in round one, but beat Argentine Matias Simaski 2-up in the second round.

The Argentine’s last victim on Friday was Italian Giorgio de Fillipi, who derailed Limpopo’s CJ du Plessis campaign in round one. Bauni dispatched the Italian 3&2 to book his quarterfinal berth against Bruyns.
