Mukamba named soccer star of the year
Dynamos’ electric 20-year-old Denver Mukamba edged Highlanders’ Masimba Mambare to the 2012 Soccer Star of the Year award at the league’s official awards on Friday night.
The voting committee had until late Thursday night to decide the winner and opted for the double winning attacker, who put in a sterling display this season.
In the Goalkeeper of the Year, it was no doubt that the winner Ariel Sibanda of Highlanders deserved it.
The other hot battle, however, was that of the Coach of the Year, which was between Highlanders’ Kelvin Kaindu – who lost only one league game the whole season – and double cup and league winner Callisto Pasuwa of Dynamos, with the latter getting the nod for his second consecutive trophy haul.
The Most Promising Player went to Monomotapa’s Kuda Mahachi.
Mukamba told Supersport.com that he was so excited with the award after coming back from his battle with asthma.
“I am grateful to my team mates and the technical team and the whole Dynamos family,” he said.
“They are the ones who have made this possible for me. It was hard at other times but I had to keep on going. I think I deserve this award. Above all I thank God who gave me the strength to go on when things looked bad,” said the player, who is on BidVest Wits wanted list said.
Last year Mukamba was Rookie of the Year.
