Mukumba not focused on awards

Dynamos midfielder Denver Mukumba has been tipped as one of the favourites to be crowned this season’s Soccer Star of the Year.

Last season, Mukumba won the Rookie of the Year award and this season he continued from where he left of in terms of impressive performances.

The player, who was once wanted by BidVest Wits in the South African Premier Soccer League, will not have it easy though, as Highlanders pair of captain Innocent Mapuranga and striker Masimba Mambare have also raised their hands with solid performances this season, which could see any of them walk away with the most prized award.

Interviewed by Supersport.com, Mukumba said that he is not wasting time thinking about personal accolades but is completely focused on helping his team win the league title.

“We have games to play and that’s what we have to think about. If the award comes then I will be happy but for now I am thinking of helping the team win the league this week, then the Mbada Diamonds Cup next week,” Mukumba said.

The Castle Lager League comes to an end on Sunday, with Dynamos taking on the already-relegated Hardbody FC – where a victory will ensure that they retain the league crown.
