League gears up for awards night
After a hectic year in the Zimbabwe football circles, which has included the banning of some players in the Asiagate scandal and failure to qualify for the Afcon 2013 in South Africa, there will be a positive night for the fraternity at the annual awards ceremony on 7 December.
The awards bring together top Zimbabwean players who have done very well in the current season, which comes to an end on 18 November.
PSL CEO Kennedy Ndebele said that the preparations for the awards are almost done. He said they will be meeting with all the stakeholders who are involved in the selection of the award winners to finalise everything.
“Yes the awards will be held on 7 December and that will be a good Christmas presents for the winners. There have been many good players this season who have shone the whole season and the league will be awarding them,” Ndebele said.
The awards include Soccer Star of the Year, which was won by University of Pretoria goalkeeper Washington Arubi while playing for Dynamos last year; the Top Goal Scorer, the Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Most Disciplined Team – as well as an award for the Most Promising Player of the Year, which goes to the best performing Under-20 player, registered with one of the Premier Soccer League teams.
