Musona home with new deal in pocket
Knowledge Musona has returned to Zimbabwe this week to help his country prepare for next month’s World Cup qualifiers having secured a berth in the top flight of German football again next season.
His club TSG Hoffenheim have confirmed they will be loaning out the former Kaizer Chiefs goal ace to fellow Bundesliga cub FC Augsburg.
Musona is moving on a one-season deal and is now certain get the game time he lacked this past campaign at Hoffenheim.
The 22-year-old has largely spent the season kicking his heels since his pricey move from Kaizer Chiefs, having not made the expected impact in the Bundesliga.
Musona made just a single start for his new club the entire season, used in ‘joker’ role as a substitute some 13 times. He failed to score for Hoffenheim, despite being the Premier Soccer League’s top marksman in the colours of Chiefs in the 2010/2011 season.
Hoffenheim finished 11th but Augsburg had to wait until the last weeks of the Bundesliga to make sure they kept their place in the top flight. They finished 14 out of 18 teams.
Musona’s focus is now on three successive qualifying game for the Warriors.
Zimbabwe open their campaign on Sunday, June 3 at home to Guinea and play away in Mozambique one week later.
On June 16 they will host Burundi in their African Nations Cup first round, second leg qualifier. The first leg ended 2-1 in favour of Burundi.
