Mayuka focused on Zambia

Zambia national team striker Emmanuel Mayuka is safe at English side Southampton after he was not put on transfer by the team this week.

Mayuka was not among the eight players released by Southampton as they look to prepar for another season in the Premier League. He joined the Saints from Young Boys of Switzerland after joining the Swiss team from Kabwe Warriors.

The team’s website confirmed that eight players were released but Mayuka was not one of them. The player, who is in camp with the national team ahead of the Lesotho game tomorrow, said that for now he is concentrating on the national team.

He said that they need to win tomorrow and maintain their position on top of Group D in the World Cup qualifiers.

“I am happy that I still have the chance to play in England at a higher level but for now I want to make sure I help the team qualify for Brazil 2014 World Cup as we play Lesotho this weekend and Sudan next weekend. We need to win these two games for us to remain on top of the table in our group. I want to score goals for both club and country and be a top striker,” the 22-year-old Afcon-winning striker said.
