Dynamos win Kitwe friendly

Thomas Nyirenda scored in the opening five minutes and Graven Chitalu added a second two minutes from time as Power Dynamos brushed aside Kitwe United of the FAZ Division One North in a low key friendly match played at Garden Park Stadium on Wednesday.

Power Dynamos used the friendly match as part of their preparations ahead of the second leg of the preliminary stage of the CAF Confederation Cup against Clube Recreativo de Caala of Angola on Sunday.

The first leg played at Arthur Davies Stadium on 17th February finished 1-0 in favour of Power when Chitalu scored the lone goal in the second half.

And speaking to fazfootball.com in a post-match interview, Dynamos assistant coach Hector Chilombo said the match was important because it helped in gauging the readiness of the players ahead of a make or break encounter.

“Our game plan is to attack and score an early goal. I am happy with how the boys played today because they responded by scoring early,” said Chilombo.

“Playing away from home will not be easy but our aim is to progress to the next round. We are aware that Recreativo lost 3-0 in their season opening match but that does not mean it will be easy for us. Each match is different and that loss could have come as a wake-up call for them to work on their weaknesses,” he said.

Chilombo also revealed that Govenda Simwala was still sidelined due to an injury he sustained in a friendly match against Kalulushi Modern Stars in late January.

Meanwhile, Kitwe United Club Secretary Harold Kang’wane is confident that his team will earn promotion to the MTN/FAZ Super League at the end of the 2013 season.

“We nearly got promoted last season but certain decisions did not go our way. We have hired Knight Mpundu as our coach and we have recruited young players who can help us achieve our objectives.”

“So far we have played friendly matches against Super League opposition and we have not faired badly. We have already played Zesco United, Nchanga Rangers, Chambishi and Power Dynamos. We will also play friendly matches against Nkana FC and City of Lusaka in the next few days. That should indicate to you how committed we are,” said Kang’wane.
