Faz/Fifa draw up new strategy

Following a successful review of the performance of the Zambian soccer governing body, Fifa - the global football governing authority - and the Football Association of Zambia have now commenced drafting a new strategic and development plan for Zambia.

The new road map for Zambian football will spell out the short, medium and long term plans of the Association. The new plan, according to the draft blue-print, will be for the period 2013 to 2017.

"Strategic planning is a very important programme and undertaking. We therefore would like to thank all the officials and technical staff who took time over this weekend and the start of the week to be part of this process. Without this type of strategic forward thinking and planning which should be followed up by effective implementation of the laid down projects and programmes, it would be difficult to attain or indeed sustain the high levels of competition and success," Faz president Kalusha Bwalya said.

Over the weekend, the Fifa delegation commenced its performance review of the Football Association of Zambia. The performance review sessions were attended by Faz Premier League officials, coaches, technical and administration experts as well as the executive committee.

It reviewed among other development programmes, the last Faz Needs Assessment and Long Term Plan which was formulated in 2004 but whose implementation was delayed.

The Fifa delegation comprises Giancarlo Sergi from FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, Thoondoo Govinden from Mauritius and the Southern Africa FIFA development officer Mr Ashford Mamelodi from Botswana.

Formulation of the new strategic plan and development agenda is expected t be completed by Wednesday.
