FAZ elated with Caf nominations

The Football Association of Zambia has expressed delight with the nomination of African champions Zambia and trainer Herve Renard for the 2012 Glo/Caf Awards.

The reigning African champions are in the running for the African team of the year award while champion coach Herve Renard is vying for the African coach of the year accolade.

“We are pleased with the nominations and announcement by Caf that we are being considered for these awards. The Faz President Kalusha Bwalya has stated that such marks of distinction and recognition are an honour and we are privileged to be considered among other very good and competitive teams and personalities. We are looking forward to the awards ceremony in Accra,” Faz spokesperson Erick Mwanza said.

On Tuesday, the Confederation of African Football released the nominees for the rest of the categories for this year’s GLO-Caf Awards scheduled for the 20th of December in Accra, Ghana.

In the National Team of the Year category, Chipolopolo were nominated along with the team they beat in 2012 Afcon final, Ivory Coast. 2013 Afcon debutants Cape Verde are also in the running as is Central African Republic.

In the Women’s National Team of the Year, recently crowned African Women’s Champions, Equatorial Guinea will fight it out with Ghana’s U-17 side that finished third in this year’s FIFA World Cup and Nigeria’s Super Falcons for the honours.

Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegalese young striker, Pape Moussa Konate and Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama have been nominated for the Most Promising Talent.

Caf will announce the top three nominees each category of the Year and by late December after the voting by Caf relevant Standing Committees, namely the Media, Technical and Football committees.
