Bobby backs Guma to impress



Cranes coach Bobby Williamson has bestowed his faith in Simeon Masaba’s understudy, Dennis Guma of Victoria University, at the expense of the former.

Masaba has been dropped from the squad to travel to Liberia on Thursday for Sunday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against the hosts.

“I have decided to leave Simeon Massa out,” explained Bobby the dropping of the experienced URA right back, who is being left out for the first time in several recent years.

“He’s (Masaba) not been playing for his club as well as he would have loved recently. Guma has been playing well for his club.

“He’s (Guma) got good stamina, good enthusiasm, he deserves his chance now.” Masaba made his Cranes debut in early 2000s and has been ever present in the set-up since.

Guma, in his early 20s, has kept improving, the latest stamp of his authority coming at last December’s Cecafa where he impressed throughout as Uganda lifted the 13th regional title.
