Express, Villa in big showdown

The top three on the Bell Super League table will all be looking to capitalize on each other’s shortfalls this weekend as the first round curtains steadily come down.

The big one though involves second and third when traditional giants Express and SC Villa face off at Nakivubo on Friday.

Table leaders Maroons will on the same day hope to maintain their control at the summit when they welcome Masaka at Luzira.

A day later, three more fixtures are lined up in which Bunnamwaya face Water, Simba host Kira, and Victors entertain Entebbe Young.

But for starters, keener interest will be at Nakivubo on Friday where reigning champions Express and 16-time record league winners, Villa, will be trading fire.

Villa lead the champions by a point on 19, both teams having played nine games. Victory for either side will see them keep in touch with Maroons, who top with 23 points.

Bright Haguma, Sulaiman Mayanja and Hussein Mubiru share 12 goals between them on scoring charts and Express will count on their services to overcome an unbeaten Villa.

Mike Mutebi’s Villa, themselves inspired by Hood Kaweesa and Dalaus Kiwalabye – the pair boasting of seven goals between them, know that victory coupled by failure of Maroons picking maximum points from Masaka will boost their chances of a challenge at the title.
