Maroons lose perfect record

Maroons remained unbeaten in the Bell Super League but lost their 100 per cent winning streak after being held 2-2 by Kira Young at Luzira Prison Ground on Saturday.

Moses Kabuye and James Amol’s goals cancelled earlier strikes for Maroons by Lubega Kamada and Patrick Kaddu as the prisons outfit dropped their first points in eight games.

Heading into this encounter Maroons had won seven on the trot, equaling KCC’s record for clinching the opening seven victories set in the 2010/11 season.

Saturday’s result still keeps Maroons atop the table standings on 22 points, five ahead of second-placed SC Villa.

This was Kira’s, who are second from bottom, third point of the season having lost five games and won none in eight.

And they didn't seem like they would change that stat kicking off at Luzira, the league newcomers falling behind as early as the second minute when Kamada opened scoring for Maroons.

They held on to take just a 1-0 trail into the break but were again caught napping 20 minutes after recess when Kaddu doubled Maroons advantage.

But Kira refused to cave in, battling to pull one back through Kabuye four minutes after Maroons’ second.

Amol then ensured of a hard-earned point and denied Asaph Mwebaze side’s would have been eighth victory on the trot when he equalized on 77 minutes.
