Umony defends his accolade

Uganda striker Brian Umony has leapt to the defence of his Player of the Tournament gong saying he deserved it.

The striker was named Cecafa Tusker Cup’s Most Valuable Player with only three goals, all coming in the group stages, to his name.

At a luncheon held for the Cranes players in Kampala on Monday following their 13th Cecafa title after their 2-1 victory over Kenya at the weekend, Umony said that every member of the Ugandan team actually deserved the award.

“To me everybody on the team deserved the award,” he said Umony, adding, “We played as a team and won as a team. So every player played his best.”

The KCCA striker played only four of the six games but apart from his trinity of goals, Umony’s display hardly matched that of say Ugandan midfielder Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito or Kenya’s anchorman Humphrey Mieno.

“That’s what everybody is saying that l didn’t deserve the award but l think l deserved it,” insisted the former SuperSport United forward.
