USL kicks off September 25
Uganda’s topflight competition, the Bell Super League, will have its 2012/13 season kick off in September.
The latest football calendar released by the local federation, Fufa, indicates the league will start on September 25, 16 days earlier than the just ended campaign kicked off. The Super League feeder competition, the Big League, is due to kick off two days later.
Last season’s topflight started on September 9 although the games on the day played did not count as they were refereed by non-Fufa sanctioned referees at a time the relationship between Uganda Super League (USL) and the local federation was at an all-time low.
The football calendar also shows that the 2012/13 season league fixtures will be released late August.
Player transfer window officially opens on July 2 and closes two days before the league kicks off.
Meanwhile, the USL chairman Kavuma Kabenge has praised the just ended season as largely successful.
“Over the last two seasons, we have made strides in the direction of professionalism,” said Kabenge.
“Today talent and skills are being paid for playing and managing football as opposed to pure voluntarism.”
He added: “The challenges experienced during the last season made us stronger and bolder and we are now ready and focused to deliver a better league season in 2012/13.”
