Utoda record first league win

Utoda enjoyed their most satisfactory and relieving day in the Bell Super League when they recorded their first win this season, beating Water 1-0 at Wankulukuku on Friday.

Pius Ngabo was side’s hero as he tapped in on 57 minutes to send coach Ismail Kintu and his bench into celebrations.

Utoda, however, remain rooted on the Bell Super League table on six points after 15 games despite the win. Water are just above Utoda on 15 points.

They should have gone to eight points but they lost two to Proline and Bunnamwaya, who were on Wednesday expelled by the Uganda Super League (USL) for apparently failing to honour games.

There was nothing much to write about in the first half but both sides pushed for a goal after recess to bring in some life.

First, Xzinda Hussein was through to goal but his curling effort from a tight angle could only brush off the cross bar with Water goalkeeper Matthias Sseruyange well beaten.

But moments later, coach Kintu’s Utoda got their efforts rewarded when Ngabo tapped in from close range a low cross from the right for the winner.

New signing Ronald Musana immediately missed a sitter the other end but Utoda’s Ismail Musoke could not punish him and Water when his loop could only fly over the bar with goalkeeper Sseruyange off his line.

Utoda substitute Jamir Kalisa also went close in the dying minutes when his loop had the home fans celebrating only to realize it had gone just inches wide.

Water’s wastefulness in front of goal at the end did just enough to hand Utoda their first win and subject Charles Ayiekoh’s outfit to their second successive second round defeat.
