Express beat Masaka to extend lead
Henry Katongole’s first half goal was enough as Express edged Masaka 1-0 away to extend their lead at the Bell Super League summit to eight points on Friday.
The Red Eagles are now on 33 points, meaning defending champions URA, second on 25, must win their game against Simba at Wankulukuku on Saturday to close the gap again.
Kefa Kisala’s Masaka remain fourth on 20 points despite the loss to Sam Ssimbwa’s side.
Starting with at least six new players, Masaka had some big moments in the game but could not breach the Express rear guard.
And they were punished on the 42nd minute when Kantongole’s long ball eluded the home side’s goalkeeper, Fahad Kantongole, to seal all three points for the table leaders.
“We created better chances but were wasteful,” Kisala told SuperSport.com after the match.
“But I’m happy with the display despite starting with virtually a new team. The boys have showed me they will gel first.”
Express winger Bonny Baingana was doubly pleased with victory. “Every win between now and May is now very important for us,” he said.
