Hall upbeat despite defeat
Despite Azam missing two of the three awarded penalties in their 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards in a friendly on Saturday, head coach Stewart Hall was impressed with his team’s display.
Kenya internationals Paul Were and Mike Baraza scored a goal each before the hour mark as their Harambee Stars teammate Joackins Atudo missed a penalty for the visitors.
Haji Nuhu pulled a goal back for Azam in the 85th minute via a spot-kick after his teammate Khamis Mcha had failed to convert his 75th minute penalty. Speaking after the match, Hall was full of praise of his charges despite their failure to convert golden opportunities.
“A good team is the one that creates many chances. We played very well and I was happy to see my players give their all in the match,” said the Briton, who coached in the Kenyan Premier League last season. “We failed to convert some good chances, but that is something that can be rectified.”
The ice-cream makers beat former Kenyan top tier champions Sofapaka 1-0 on Sunday and will end their tour with a friendly against KCB this upcoming Tuesday.
