APR were held to a goalless draw by Atletico in a Cecafa Kagame Cup clash played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
With the countries at loggerheads politically, the match had extra spice as the teams from the neighbouring countries sized each other up.
APR started the game attacking with Haitian import Leonel St Preus running rings on the APR defenders who however remained steadfast.
The draw meant APR remained on top of group C with four points the same as Atletico who have an inferior goal difference.
"The match was very tough and the point is enough to take us to the quarterfinals stage. We must however plan effectively in our last game against Yanga," APR coach Ernest Brandy told SuperSport.com.
His counterpart Kaze Cedrick of Burundi shared the same sentiments saying "I am happy with the draw since the game could have gone either way but I am satisfied with the results today."
