Tenga retains top Cecafa post

Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) President Leodegar Tenga has been re-elected unopposed in the just concluded congress held in Dar es Salaam on the eve of the start of the Senior Challenge Cup.

Tenga will hold the top post for another four year years. He was first elected in 2007 and his steady leadership at the regional body has been praised by football stakeholders across the region.

He also doubles up as the chairman of the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) and is also the managing director at Land Rover, Tanzania.

"I am happy the delegates have shown faith in me again and I intend continue with my mission to help the region be among the best in Africa."

"Cecafa has been in a steady growth but we want to ensure we embark on a steady programme to ensure we are represented in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as we also focus on ensuring that our team also qualify for the Afcon," Tenga told SuperSport.com.

Tenga is also an elected member of the Fifa committee.

Kenya’s Nicholas Musonye was also endorsed to continue serving as the Secretary General of the regional body.

Four members were also elected into the Cecafa executive committee with Somalia’s Abdiqani Saeed Arab getting eight votes.

Sudan’s Tariq Atta Salih also garnered eight votes in capturing the Executive Committee seat and so was Rwanda’s Raoul Gisanura. Ethiopia’s Sahilu Wolde squeezed through after getting five votes.
