Yobo explains 'communication breakdown'

Nigeria captain, Joseph Yobo has moved to douse the tension between him and national team coach, Stephen Keshi.

Yobo, 32 was excluded from the Nigeria squad for last month’s 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Kenya and he promptly registered his displeasure in an interview with Brila FM.< /p>

Keshi’s response was to drop the Fenerbahce defender again as he announced the list of 30 players for the Fifa world cup qualifiers and the 2013 Fifa Confederations Cup in June.

Yobo has now explained that Keshi had tried to reach him via the phone but that he did not take the call as he had no idea the call was from the former Togo national team coach.

“I have been speaking to Yobo and he revealed to me that Keshi actually tried reaching him on the phone but that he did not take the calls” an executive committee member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who spoke to supersport.com on condition of anonymity revealed.

“Stephen Keshi has changed his phone number twice after the 2013 Afcon but did not inform Yobo.

“So when he tried to reach Yobo, the player had no idea it was the national coach calling as he did not have that particular phone number.

“At that point, I would have expected the coach to send a text message to Joe (Yobo) but he did not and that is why all of this has escalated,”

Yobo is Nigeria’s most capped player ever with 95 appearances for the Super Eagles.
