Echiejile walks tight rope in Portugal

Nigeria left-back, Elderson Echiejile suffered a huge setback in his aspirations of playing in next season’s Uefa Champions League as Sporting Club Braga lost 1-3 to FC Porto in the Portuguese Supa Liga on Monday night.

Echiejile was on for all 90 minutes for Braga in the feisty duel at the Estádio do Dragão, Porto as a brace from Kelvin and another from Rodriguez condemned the Minhotos to a morale-shattering defeat against their bitter rivals.

The defeat on Matchday 25 also means Braga’s Champions League qualification hopes for next season hang by a thread as the club slipped to fourth on the log with 43 points from 25 matches.

Echiejile has made seven appearances for Braga this season scoring once in the Super Liga game against Sporting Lisbon on April 1.

The 25-year-old has also made 25 appearances for the Super Eagles scoring once in the 2013 Afcon against Mali in the semifinals.
