Bilbao have underperformed - Bielsa

Athletic Bilbao manager Marcelo Bielsa has said he has not made the most of the resources available to him this season.

The Argentine, who will bring up his 100th game in charge of Athletic in the Basque derby against Real Sociedad on Friday night, said that his side had not met lived up to expectations after reaching two cup finals last season.

"What I want to say is that the management of the human resources we have has not been adequate," he told reporters.

A 12th defeat in 24 league games last weekend saw Athletic slip to 15th in the table and they were also dumped out in the early rounds of the Europa League and Copa del Rey.

"The evaluation is negative, last season the team finished 10th when it could have been fifth and this season it is in the bottom third of the table when we have the squad to be in the top third."

However, the 57-year-old denied that his job was under threat or that he had considered walking away from the club.
