Xavi - a record title winner

The Uefa Euro 2012™ title won last weekend means that Xavi has now lifted more trophies than any other Spanish player -23- one more than the legendary Paco Gento and his fellow Barca teammate Andres Iniesta.

The ex-Madrid star Gento had held the record for 41 years, but the Barca playmaker has now overtaken him and at 32, he’s still hungry for more titles next season under Tito Villanova.

Xavi has won 8 different titles: 6 league championships, 3 Champions Leagues, 2 Spanish Cups, 2 Spanish Super Cups, 5 European Super Cups and 2 World Club Cups with Barca, as well as two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup with the Spanish national team. That total of 23 titles confirms his place amongst the game’s greats.

The figures are even more impressive considering that during his first seven years at the Club, he won just two trophies and it wasn’t until Frank Rijkaard took over that he really began to collect those winners medals.

Xavi was key part of Pep Guardiola’s all conquering team and under him he won 14 of the 19 possible titles and cemented his place as Spain’s most successful footballer of all time.
