Modubi finds club at last

Former Bafana Bafana international Masilo Modubi has signed for Belgian second-tier side Dessel Sport.

Modubi has been clubless since he left Westerlo at the end of the 2010/11 season, having failed to win a contract in the PSL. He had trials at Bloemfontein Celtic but these were unsuccessful.

He returned to Belgium to train with Westerlo in April this year in order to keep fit, and has now signed on with Dessel Sport.

The club won promotion to the second tier last season and were once the home of Modubi’s former Westerlo teammate Boy-Boy Mosia.

The 27-year-old was one of three youngster signed by English giants Chelsea from the School of Excellence nine years ago and then sent to play in Belgium to gain experience.

Modubi was the last to remain in Belgium after Mosia returned home after failing to make the grade and the late Jeffrey Ntuka joined Kaizer Chiefs and then champions SuperSport United.

Modubi was capped first by Carlos Alberto Parreira in the 2007 Cosafa Castle Cup and made the last of his four national team appearances as a substitute in the friendly against Portugal in March 2009.

Originally from Limpopo province, Modubi also played for South Africa’s under-23 team in the 2008 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.
