Bristol axe McInnes as sackings continue

Bristol City sacked manager Derek McInnes on Saturday after his side slumped to the bottom of the Championship with a 4-0 home defeat against Leicester.

McInnes is the seventh manager in the Championship to be sacked this season as owners of second-tier clubs continue to press the panic button earlier than ever.

Bolton's Owen Coyle, Ipswich's Paul Jewell, Blackburn's Henning Berg, Nottingham Forest's Sean O'Driscoll, Wolves' Stale Solbakken and Keith Hill at Barnsley are the other bosses to have been axed.

Berg was dismissed after just 57 days, while O'Driscoll and Solbakken lasted barely six months.

City director Jon Lansdown said in a statement: "This is a decision we felt we had to make for the good of the football club.

"Derek has been a pleasure to work with; he's disappointed but he understands the decision.

"We want to give ourselves the best possible chance of getting out of the situation we are currently in and we've got 20 games to do that."
