Warriors thump ABS



El-Kanemi Warriors proved too hot to handle for ABS in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game by winning 4-1 in Maiduguri on Thursday.

It was a game in which new signings proved decisive in the final third for the hosts and ABS at the El-Kanemi Stadium.

Ebube Okpokwu opened the score for the Warriors exactly in a minute and 50 seconds after kick off to the delight of head coach, Zachary Baraje.

ABS had a torrid time keeping the new twin strike force of El-Kanemi, Okpokwu and Ezekiel Thompson, at bay as both men used their tall frame to good use.

In the 21st minute, it was Thompson's turn to score as the hosts took away a two-goal lead into the break.

Ten minutes into the restart, defender Reuben Ogbonna made it three for the Warriors.

Okpokwu, who joined El-Kanemi last month, got his second of the day and the fourth for his team with just 21 minutes left to play.

ABS, however, made efforts to get themselves into the game in the last quarter of an hour.

It was new boy, Otegbeye Ajibola, signed from city rivals, Kwara United just five days ago, who scored at the death for ABS as the game ended 4-1 in favour of the Warriors.

Thursday's win lifts Baraje's men off the bottom four as they have now amassed 12 points after 10 rounds of matches in the NPFL this term.

ABS have dropped into the bottom four and are now in 17th spot in the standings.
