Bayelsa to stop Sunshine Stars

Bayelsa United attacking midfielder, Chigozie Christopher has said his side will halt Sunshine Stars new found winning aura in the seven-week old Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The former Nigerian champions will play hosts to the Akure Gunners in Thursday's NPFL Matchday 8 at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

The coach Ladan Bosso side suffered a 0-2 humbling in the hands of ABS on Matchday 7 in llorin which left them in eight spot on the log on 10 points from a possible 21.

Christopher said his side will not negotiate the three points at stake with the high-riding Akure-based side.

"We're already aware the encounter won't be easy, Sunshine Stars are a big side and appear to have discovered their winning mentality and naturally they'll come out hard with the hope of adding us to the list of their victims.

"However, we're already bruised by the painful defeat at ABS and won't settle for anything short of a convincing victory. A draw is definitely not acceptable to us.

"Another defeat after ABS' will dent our image and further put the season's continental ticket dream into serious challenge.

"We need the points so as to shore up our rating on the log. So we're prepared for the challenge Sunshine Stars will throw at us on Thursday," said the former Heartland playmaker to supersport.com

The Akure-based side are third on the log on 14 points from a possible 21.
