IMC deliberate on NPL

The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Interim Management Committee will meet on Wednesday in Abuja to deliberate on the proposed February 16 kickoff date for the 2012/13 league season.

The meeting is coming on the heels of public apprehension that the much delayed elite league may not commence as scheduled.

Speculation has been rift that further postponement is imminent after the league management body failed to hold the draws on January 12 in Kano at the conclusion of the NPL pre-season Super Four tournament.

The NPL IMC secretary, Tunji Babalola said the body will meet to discuss issues regarding the commencement of the league season. He however declined comment whether the meeting is to announce further postponement of the league.

"The NPL Interim Management Committtee will meet on Wednesday and part of their deliberations will be on the league especially on the February 16 commencement date.

"Everything about the new season will be discussed. I think it makes no sense to speculate but rather wait for the outcome of the meeting, anything could still happen.

"The committee is mindful of its responsibilities as well as people's expectations. I believe they are working very hard to live up to the billing," he said to supersport.com.

Every pointer indicates the committee's meeting will be to announce the postponement of the kickoff date as it is yet to lay hands on sufficient fund to prosecute its programmes.
