Weng keen to keep Plateau on top

Plateau United forward, Edward Weng has said his side will not relinquish the Nigeria National League Division A top spot.

The Tin City side lead the pack on 14 points same as challengers, Adamawa United but on superior goals.

Weng said his side's target is to further widen the gap beyond the reach of their competitors.

"We've come to stay on top of the ladder irrespective of the stiff challenges coming from other teams. Our target, at the moment, is to expand the gap at the top beyond the reach of others," said the former El-Kanemi Warriors' hitman to supersport.com.

Plateau United have a tough duel against city rivals, Giwa FC on Matchday 8 at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos next Wednesday and Weng said his side will strive to grab the three points at stake.

"It's a local derby, and it will be tougher than the encounter against another city rivals, Mighty Jets which ended in a barren draw. Last season Giwa FC pocketed six points at our expenses. We want to reclaim the points this season.

"The odds favour us to grab maximum points, as we're more relaxed and operate under a conducive atmosphere than them. So we have every reason to win," he said.

The encounter originally slated for Sunday was moved to Wednesday owing to the Super Eagles' final match against the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
