Tornadoes keeper relishes NNL win

Niger Tornadoes' goalkeeper, Mustapha Aliko has said his side were fortunate to pull off a 2-1 win against hard fighting Zamfara United on Matchday 7 of the NNL at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna on Saturday.

The Minna-based side edged forward through Shehu Shansu Sabole in the 51st minute while Zamfara equalised almost immediately through a well taken dead ball but the hosts grabbed the winner in the 89th minute through Simon Opiteku.

The victory takes the points haul of Godwin Koko Uwua's team to 12 from a maximum of 21 points.

They will be away to ambitious Jos-based side, Mighty Jets on Matchday 8 in Jos next weekend.

Aliko said his side dreamed of amassing as much as four unreplied goals against the visitors.

"It was a difficult game perhaps we underrated Zamfara United because we were thinking of an easy win with a wide goal margin of up to four, five goals. I'm excited we survived their scare and were able to pocket the three points at stake.

"The hard won victory will prepare us adequately for the crunch encounter against Mighty Jets in Jos next weekend. This win is a big boost going into the game.

"We'll prepare harder to ensure we win valid points at Mighty Jets aimed at helping our push to the top of the log," he said to supersport.com.

Niger Tornadoes lost their elite league status at the conclusion of the 2011/12 NPL season.
