United and Pillars draw
Kaduna United held domestic champions, Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw in a pre-season friendly encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on Wednesday.
The tie was a build-up game for both sides ahead of the start of 2012/13 NPL season on February 16.
The Pyramid City side edged forward in the 24th minute from a well-taken penalty while the visitors levelled score in the 60th minute through the side attacking midfielder, Peter Onoja.
Kaduna United coach, Saleh Tanko-Lato said the performance of his wards gave hope of far better performance when league starts next month.
"It was a good match for both sides but I think my wards played better and that was why we're able to come back from one goal down to even score.
"I think the winning mentality is back as well as confidence. We're not there yet but we're inching closer.
"It clearly shows there will be light at the end of the tunnel. If we could go to Kano to pick a draw that means when the league starts we surely could go anywhere to grab good result.
"We used the friendly to try both the new and old players with the view to see how they could blend and I'm excited at what I saw.
"We won't lose focus or allow ourselves to be carried away by the results of pre-season matches. We're still in the rebuilding process," he said to supersport.com.
Tanko-Lato said his target is to assemble a solid side that will challenge for the NPL title in the coming season.
"Of course, I want to raise a team that will stand on their own anywhere and challenge for the title. I'm confident that dream team will be possible before the start of the season," he said.
Kaduna United have been involved in many pre-season matches. The side organised an eight-team pre-season tournament in Kaduna and they performed brilliantly.
