NPL draws still on ice

Secretary of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Interim Management Committee, Tunji Babalola has said there is no new date for the postponed draws for the 2012/13 season.

The draws and fixtures for the new season were scheduled to hold in Kano at the end of the NPL pre-season Super Four tournament but was dropped at the last minute.

Babalola said the league committee has not decided on a new date but quickly added that the February 16 kickoff date for the 2012/13 NPL season remains unchanged.

"I can't confirm any new date for the draws, there is no specific date for now. Once the management team is ready for the crucial assignment they'll make their views public.

"However, the indefinite postponement of the league draws won't affect the February 16 start of the season. That date remains sacrosanct," he said to supersport.com.

Babalola could not confirm whether the upcoming league season will be abridged or regular as being speculated due to time constraint.

"No, I'm not aware of such speculation but there is a body saddled with the responsibility at the appropriate time they'll lay everything bare," he said.

The Nigeria National League (NNL) is already in its fourth week while the elite league is still struggling to commence.
