Abia Warriors in hot water

Lower division side, Abia Warriors, will start the New Year with sanctions from the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Abia Warriors violated the rules of the NNL when they were on a road trip against City Of David (COD) United on Saturday, December 29, without names of players on their jerseys.

Although COD United played on protest, Felix Adeworishe’s goal separated both sides on matchday.

Article 1.6(9) of the Rules and Regulations of the Nigeria National League 2012/2013 season states that: “Each jersey shall have the player’s name clearly displayed above the jersey number. Players without their names at the back of jerseys shall not be allowed to play.”

Secretary of the NNL, Ayo Abdulrahman, confirmed the development.

“Since Abia Warriors violated the rules and regulations, the NNL will sanction the club,” Abdulrahman told supersport.com.

Ironically, chairman of the NNL, Emeka Inyama, also heads the Umuahia-based club.
