Akpeyi vows to grab Afcon shirt

Super Eagles' goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has said he is prepared to fight his way to the 2013 Afcon in South Africa.

Akpeyi is among the four goalkeepers named by manager, Stephen Keshi on Friday in the 32-man provisional list for final camping in Faro, Portugal.

Others are Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim. It is believed that one goalkeeper will drop from the final list of 23 players for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Akpeyi said he is dead serious to prove bookmakers wrong by nipping a shirt in the 2013 Afcon squad.

"I'm fully ready for the task ahead and I'm determined to give 110% to ensure I grab a shirt in the Afcon squad.

"People are already thinking I'm the next goalkeeper to leave the camp. I'm not discouraged or disturbed but challenged to fight the good fight while leaving judgement to the coaches.

"Manager, Keshi has insisted the best will be given the nod to head to South Africa for the Afcon and I'm determined to be among the best," said the Heartland shot-stopper to supersport.com.

The final list of 23 will be made public after the January 2 international friendly against the Catalonian side at the Estadi Cornella El Prat, home ground of Spanish side, Espanyol.

Nigeria are drawn in Group C for the Afcon with title holders, Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. The 2013 Afcon holds in South Africa from January 19 to February 10.
