Sani 'disappointed' after Nigeria omission

Sanusi Sani has expressed his disappointment at not being part of Stephen Keshi’s Nigeria squad preparing for the 2013 Afcon.

Sani was omitted from a 24-man party released last week that are currently camping in Abuja ahead of the teams departure to Portugal later in the month.

He was part of the preparations for the final Afcon qualifying tie against Liberia and had hoped his performance in camp would have earned him another call-up.

"I can't hide my disappointment at not being called up for the preparations for the Nations Cup because I thought I was making progress the last time I was in camp," he told supersport.com

"It was very tough for me when I discovered my name wasn't among those invited, but time is still on my side and I hope my performances in future will earn me a recall."

The Enugu Rangers' striker however felt the postponement of the commencement of the new season could have played a part in his exclusion.

"I think if the league had started, the coach would have had the opportunity to pick those of us in top form, but we've just been training and it may not have been easy for him to select the best in such circumstances.

"The players selected are also good players and I have no complaints because all of us can’t play at the same time.

"I'll just concentrate on doing well for my club and if my efforts are good enough then the opportunity would surely come again because there is a busy schedule ahead in the international calendar including the Chan for local players," he reasoned.

Sani joined Rangers recently from Gombe United, where he was their leading scorer last season with 11 goals.

He made his Super Eagles debut against Niger in August.
