Dolphins lament delay in NPL kick-off

Dolphins coach, Stanley Eguma is urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure its directive that the 2012/13 Nigeria Premier League season kicks off before the start of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations is carried out.

Eguma told supersport.com that his team are well prepared for the new season, but that the uncertainty on when action may commence could affect the sharpness of the players.

"We're just back from closed camping and are ready to challenge for honours, but the only problem is that there has been too much delay in starting the league," he said.

"Our players are at peak fitness now and this would have been the ideal time for them to start, but there has been another postponement we'll now have to work towards the new date and hope they stick to it this time.

"New dates are being announced everyday, and this is not good for us as our own pre-season schedule had a target and it could disorganise all the work we have put in these past few months."

Eguma said he is confident that they would do well as the team have been in good form.

"I'm satisfied with performance of the team in the friendlies we have played and the boys are determined to do well when the league starts," he said.

"We don't have too many new players, and would be relying on the old ones to do a good job for us."

Dolphins finished in 11th position in the premier league last season.
