Ivory Coast still Africa's No 1

Ivory Coast gained one more point to emerge at 14 on the latest FIFA monthly ranking ahead of top teams like Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico and France.

The Elephants have been Africa’s number team for more than a year now, with a month away from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations where they will be facing in Group D Algeria, who are the second African team on the list at 19th position.

Mali gained three places to stay at 25 and third African nation on the ranking, while Ghana lost one point to finish 30th and fourth on continental level.

African champions Zambia leapt five places to perch at 34, thanks to their outstanding 1-0 win over South Africa in Johannesburg last month in a friendly.

Gabon and Central African Republic have surprisingly secured stable spots in the top 10 of African teams.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola ranking will be published on January 17, 2013, two days before Afcon kickoff.
