Nigerians disappoint in Europe

A host of Nigerians were on duty for their European clubs on Monday night but it turned out to be a dour night for most.

There were substitute appearances for Shola Ameobi and Ogenyi Onazi in England and Italy while Emmanuel Emenike was conspicuously missing in action.

On a night to forget for Nigerians in Europe, supersport now rounds up all the action.

England (Premier League)

Shola Ameobi came on for Newcastle United with 19 minutes remaining in the Magpies’ 1-2 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Ameobi barely made any impact as Fulham closed down the spaces and defended manfully to earn maximum points.

The 31-year-old forward has made only 8 appearances for Newcastle United this season.

Italy (Serie A)

Youngster, Ogenyi Onazi came on as a stoppage time substitute for Lazio in the club’s 0-0 draw against Bologna at the Stadio Dall’Ara .

Onazi has been used sparingly by the Lazio Manager, Vladimir Petkovic this term.

The 19-year-old has played just three games in Serie A this season.

Russia (Premier League)

Emmanuel Emenike has endured a lean spell in recent days and things got even worse for him on Monday night as he was left out of the Spartak Moscow squad that defeated Rubin Kazan 1-0 at Central.

Emenike, 25, has scored 4 goals in 12 appearances for Spartak in the Premier League this season.

Portugal (Super Lig)

Elderson Echejile is no longer first choice at Sporting Braga.

After making the left back position his own last season, the Braga Manager, Jose Peseiro has now placed his faith in the quartet of Salinho, Vinicius, Douglas and Ismaily at the heart of the side’s defence.

Incidentally, Echejile watched on from the bench on Monday night as his replacement, Ismaily smacked home one of the goals in Braga’s 4-1 romp at the Estadio Cidade de Coimbra against Academica Coimbra.
