NPL congress to meet despite decision

Supersport.com can report that the seventh edition of the NPL congress will be held today at Prixair hotel, wuse zone 6, Abuja by 10 am.

The NPL board, chaired by Rumson Baribote, met on Monday and the congress, scheduled for today, was called off.

Baribote stepped down as the NPL Chairman and a three-man committee was set up to investigate the crisis, hindering the progress of the League for a three-week period.

Speaking to supersport.com on behalf of the club owners on Tuesday, ABS' Manager, Alloy Chukwuemeka, disclosed that the congress will be held despite the decision reached at an emergency meeting by the Baribote-led board.

“Their meeting was held in a garage and we have no business with their decision. He knew he would be thrown out officially at the congress by all the 20 clubs on ground and that was why he stepped aside.

“With the committee he set up to investigate for three weeks, does that mean we will wait till January 2013 before the 2012 congress is held? The NFF has also rubbished his decision and I can authoritatively confirm, on behalf on the 20 premier League representatives here, that the congress will be held this morning.

“They called us for the congress today and Baribote gave no reasonable reason for the cancellation of the congress. As I'm talking, NFF observers and the NPL secretariat are on the ground to coordinate the congress,” Chukwuemeka told supersport.com.

Meanwhile, several attempts to speak with the NFF President, Aminu Maigari, went unanswered, as his phone was switched off.
