Bayelsa Utd grab Okardi

Former Nigerian champions, Bayelsa United have signed on midfielder, Blessing Okardi.

Okardi joins the Yenagoa-based club from Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, Lobi Stars.

Supersport.com has been informed that Okardi signed a one-year contract in Yenagoa this week ahead of the 2012/2013 Premier League season.

Okardi has already resumed training with Bayelsa United.

After training on Thursday morning, Okardi was given a surprise birthday party by his new teammates and coaches as he had turned 24 the previous day.

"Blessing signed for us this week," said club chairman, Akpofini Odogu told supersport.com. "We have been strengthening our squad ahead of the new season as we know the Premier League is different from the other ranks of the league."

Bayelsa United have been bolstering their coaching and playing personnel since gaining promotion to the top flight last term.

In the off-season, coach Ladan Bosso joined from Wikki Tourists while players like Buhari Jafar and Emmanuel Enize have been signed on too from Kaduna United and Ocean Boys.
