Taraba, Gombe draw in pre-season

Nigeria Premier League (NPL) club, Gombe United on Friday played out a 2-2 draw with Nigeria National League (NNL) side, FC Taraba.

The duel was a pre-season friendly which was decided at the Taraba Township Stadium, Jalingo.

Victor Barnabas opened scoring in the 20th minute for the Desert Scorpions but parity was restored immediately by Azeez Baba who got the equaliser for FC Taraba.

The first half ended stalemate as both sides were cautious of themselves.

On resumption, the home side went ahead with a fantastic effort from Musa Abubakar who drilled in a shot from 25 yards which found the top right corner of the goal.

FC Taraba thought they had won, but a defensive gaffe in the 88th minute found Gombe United's Chukwudi Ike at the right angle and the striker wasted no time to slot in the second goal for the visitors.

Gombe United technical adviser, Maurice Cooreman told supersport.com afterwards that his wards underrated their hosts and they were made to pay for their profligacy.

“FC Taraba were the better side and I love the challenge they gave my boys. We should have won the game but we missed a lot of chances,” said the former Warri Wolves' gaffer.

His FC Taraba counterpart, Aliu Mohammed gave kudos to his men for their resilience against Gombe United.

“My boys tried to have force a premier League team to a draw. Although they conceded the second goal towards the end of the match but I am proud of them,” he said.
