Ogbu gets Heartland backing

Heartland striker, Brendan Ogbu said he has agreed terms with his side's management for an easy exit clause for the 2012/2013 league season.

Ogbu, who scored the winner in his side's victory at the 2012 Federation Cup, is known to be at the verge of being hooked up by Russian Premier League promoted side, FC Alania Vladikavkaz during the mid- term transfer window in January.

The former Enugu Rangers’ hitman said the new terms allow him to join the Russian side once an agreement is sealed or stay put at the Naze Millionaires camp.

“I’ve struck a new understanding with the management to stay with the team for the coming season if things don’t click with the move to the Russian side, FC Alania Vladikavkaz in January.

“Although, my manager has assured that every issue concerning the movement to the Russian side will be tied up before the January transfer window to enable me join them but I’ve to be open and flexible with Heartland so that nobody gets hurt at the end.

“If the move to the Russian side sees the light of the day, fine and well. At least, that’s what I hugely desire but if it fails I’ll be happy to stay back at Heartland and fight for the league title with them.

“Heartland is dear to me but as a player there is a point in time in one’s career one would want a change of environment and that’s the urge to head to Europe and if I’m not going outside the nation’s shores Heartland must be the place for me.

“We have the league shield as top priority. Though we’ll give other challenges, the Confederation Cup and Federation Cup campaign their due attention but winning the league is the biggest attraction now at Heartland,” he said to supersport.com.

Ogbu said he remains part and parcel of Heartland until events say otherwise.

“I’m giving my best to Heartland, no kidding but fully committed to the ongoing pre-season exercise and other pre-season activities they are engaged in at the moment. It's either I’m there or out, no pranks,” he said.

Ogbu was vital to Heartland's futile attempt at the league title in the out gone season finishing on 51 points from 36 matches though he helped immensely to the side's win of the 2012 Federation Cup.
