Gata sets mark at fifteen goals

3SC forward, Ismaila Gata, has told supersport.com that he wants to score 15 goals in the 2012/2013 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season.

"I've personally set myself a target of scoring 15 (league) goals for the coming season. It's personal and hopefully I'll achieve it. I'm working hard to achieve that personal target with my team," he said.

Gata is also hoping that his goals will help the Oluyole Warriors challenge for the league title next term.

He acknowledged that though his team face a battle from other top sides to end their 15-year wait for a first league title.

"We can compete for the title next season. Yes, there are teams like Enyimba, Enugu Rangers, Lobi Stars, Sunshine Stars, Dolphins and the champions, Kano Pillars are there to beat. But remember that we know all of these teams well because we've faced them last season and in previous ones too.

"In our pre-season games, we've done well so far. In seven games, we have won all. There's competition for places (in the team) now and everyone is trying to impress the coaches with their performance," he said.

But the 19-year-old striker believes that 3SC have enough quality to finish in the top three next term if they do not end up with the title.

"If we end up not winning the league I'm sure we can finish in the top three and win a continental ticket. But this is dependent on us being consistent in our games," the former Enyimba and ABS man said.

Gata crossed from Enyimba to 3SC in the mid-season transfer window of last term.

The striker has scored twice in pre-season so far for 3SC.
