John Utaka capped an impressive season in Ligue 1 with a well-taken brace in HSC Montpellier’s 2-1 victory over AJ Auxerre in the final day of the season.
The victory gave Montpellier their first ever Ligue 1 victory at the expense of the expensively-assembled PSG side whose 2-1 win at Lorient proved academic as they could only finish in second place, three points behind Utaka’s club.
The 30-year-old Nigerian attacker has been enjoying a fantastic season and celebrated his recent call up to the Super Eagles with goals in the 32nd and 76th minutes.
SuperSport.com can report that Utaka thus took his Ligue 1 tally for the season to 7 goals in 34 appearances for La Paillade.
Montpellier will also represent France in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
