Bewarang targets NPL return

Plateau United supremo, Bitrus Bewarang, has told SuperSport.com that his target is to ensure Plateau United returns to the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

The Jos club were relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL) after losing their Premier League status last term.

Plateau United begin their campaign in the lower division against new boys, Giwa FC, which acquired the franchise of Gombe-based side, Flash Flamingoes, in what will be the first Jos derby.

"We were able to keep most of the players who were with us last term. This will give us an edge over other teams in the group," he said.

Bewarang will bank on top stars like Emmanuel Odafe, Stanley Dimgba, Musa Adamu, Caleb Baba, Tochukwu Edom, Edward Bewarang and skipper Akpos Eborge among others.

The quartet of Peter Gyang (Heartland), Abdullahi Shehu (Kano Pillars), Solomon Kwambe (Sunshine Stars) and George Akpabio (Ajax Cape Town) left the club.

Others teams in the group include Meridian, Adamawa United, Nasarawa United, NAF, Sokoto United, Kogi United and Zamfara United, which also lost their Premier League status last term.
