Teenager Adegbite eyes top scorers award

Enugu Rangers’ forward, Rasaq Adegbite insists only the top scorers’ award will do for him at the end of the 2011/2012 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) campaign.

The attacker has been impressive for the Flying Antelopes this term earning a penalty in Rangers’ 3-1 win over Kano Pillars in mid-week.

Adegbite is now looking to go one better by carving a reputation for himself as one of the most feared marksmen in the Nigerian top flight.

“I want to be the top scorer in the NPL this season. It is a dream I know I can actualize by playing well in every game and this can only be achieved if I work hard,” Adegbite told SuperSport.com.

The 17-year-old, who joined Rangers from lower division club, Gateway FC at the start of the current campaign, says the learning curve has not been too steep.

“It is not the same (the standard of the lower league as compared to the NPL) but I was a top player at Gateway where I scored seven goals so it has been easy to adapt,” he explained.

Adegbite currently trails the league’s top scorers, Sanusi Sani and Mustapha Babadidi (both of Gombe United) who are tied on five goals each, but the attacker believes he will increase his tally when Rangers take on Rising Stars on matchday 7.

“We (Enugu Rangers) are already in Ijebu Ode for the game against Rising Stars. I will do my best as always and God willing, I will increase my goals total after the game,” he said.

Rasaq Adegbite has scored three goals in the 2011/2012 season. He scored twice when Rangers beat Kaduna United 3-0 in Enugu.

The youngster also grabbed the winner when Rangers defeated Wikki Tourists 1-0.
