Olowora goes for gold

Aminat Olowora of Team Lagos has set her sights on winning the gold medal in the long distance race at the 18th National Sports Festival in Nigeria popularly referred to as Eko 2012.

The teenage athlete will represent the hosts in the women's 5,000 metres event.

"My aim is to win gold in the event I've been entered for. And I'm not ruling out setting a record in the events as well. I've worked hard all year for this festival and I want to make history with this," she said.

"I want to make Lagos proud because at the last games I finished in third position in my event. This time, I'm very prepared."

Olowora has been in splendid form since May this year when she won the women’s 1,500 metres event at the Lagos State Sports Festival known as the Ibile Games.

The young athlete is one of the medal-winning prospect of Team Lagos in the track and field event of this year's edition of the sports festival in Nigeria.
