Chiefs crush Wits
Kaizer Chiefs put on a very professional display as they outclassed Bidvest Wits 3-0 at the Mbombela Stadium in the Nedbank Cup round of 32.
Siboniso Gaxa, Morgan Gould and Mandla Masango all ended up on the scoresheet on Saturday night as the Students were taught a football lesson.
In the 14th minute Chiefs put the ball in the net, but it was called offside. Tshabalala sent in a cross into the box and Nkhatha tapped home from close range, but Tshabalala was called up for being ahead of the line.
On the half-hour mark, Tshabalala sent up Nkhatha but the Zimbabwean shot wide from just inside the box with his weaker foot.
A minute later Wits could have scored. Mzikayise Mashaba sent in a wonderful cross from the left flank and Ryan Chapman directed it with his head, but the crossbar saved Chiefs ‘keeper Itumeleng Khune as the ball rebounded off the woodwork.
Chiefs took the lead in the 35th minute when Tshabalala’s defence-splitting pass was met by a clever run by Gaxa, and the right-back firstly outmuscled Aaron Mokoena and then put the ball through the legs of Wits keeper Ryan Harrison to make it 1-0 to Amakhosi.

In the 48th minute Wits were given a slight reprieve when, from a Tshabalala cross, they failed to deal with the ball and it fell to Nkhatha, who hit the target-bound shot against his own teammate Eric Mathoho and the Students cleared the ball for a corner.
A minute later though, from the resultant corner, Gould latched onto the cross from Tshabalala and headed home from the near post to double his team’s lead just five minutes into the second half.
Chiefs should have made it 3-0 in the in the 67th minute through a lovely move as Lucky Baloyi dazzled the Wits defence and released Nkhatha, who unfortunately saw the ball come off the crossbar.
Ten minutes before the match ended, Chiefs made it 3-0. Nkhatha saw his low volley parried by Harrison into the path of Masango and the winger, who had only been on the pitch for three minutes, headed into an empty net.
