Tough ties in Nedbank preliminaries

The draw has been made on Monday for the National First Division’s preliminary round of the 2012 Nedbank Cup.

Eight teams from South Africa’s second tier will compete in South Africa’s ‘FA Cup’, and the 16 teams will compete in a preliminary round to decide which of these will enter the hat for the Last 32.

And there are some fascinating ties to look forward to after Monday’s draw.

Current League leaders University of Pretoria, unbeaten so far in the 2011/12 campaign, are away at Dynamos.

AmaTuks were finslists in this competition in 2009 where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Moroka Swallows.

Second-placed Thanda Royal Zulu, who have also yet to lose this season, are at third-placed Blackburn Rovers in the tie of the round.

Vasco da Gama, who last season played in this competition as a Premier League club, reaching the quarterfinals, host struggling United FC.

The 2008 finalists, Mpumalanga Black Aces, will host Atlie FC in their preliminary round clash.

First Division sides have reached the Nedbank Cup final in three of the last four years, with Black Leopards managing the feat in 2011. They lost to Orlando Pirates 3-1 in the decider and would go on to win promotion to the Premier League.

The Nedbank Cup Last 32 comprises of the 16 Premier League clubs, eight teams from the National First Division and eight sides from the Vodacom League.

2012 Nedbank Cup NFD Preliminary Round:

Witbank Spurs vs FC AK
Sivutsa Stars vs Carara Kicks
Bay United vs Chippa United
Vasco da Gama vs United FC
African Warriors vs FC Cape Town
